Three separate love stories - 15th-century, 16th-century, Victorian - linked by hints of reincarnation from era to era. In the mid-1400s, Yolande, bastard daughter of a dead Lancastrian baron, is taken into the household of the great Earl of Warwick - where her childhood chums include the future Richard III and other greats. But though Warwick has kind intentions when he marries Yolande to porcine Tom Cowley, poor Yolande is turned off by Tom (who has a horrid/pathetic family) and dreams of Sir Joscelyn Conyers, a Warwick loyalist: they consummate their love; Joscelyn will later rescue Yolande when Tom Terrible (and his Nasty Sisters) truss her up in the barn; there'll be a brief cottage idyll before Joscelyn finally deep-sixes Tom and a sister. And Yolande will pray that her lover will be with her always. . . as Joscelyn marches off to his death with Warwick's forces. Switch, then, to Romance Two - in 1538 Canterbury. This time the heroine is Margery, a young, highly reluctant "concubine" to a greedy, rich merchant. Her star-crossed love: nice Brother Clement, a priest! But Clement doesn't really feel the clerical call - his vows resulted from a promise to his dying mum - and he yearns to reciprocate Margery's "brainsick" passion. Unfortunately, however, Margery and Clement first get involved in a conspiracy to prevent papacy-baiting Henry VIII from looting Canterbury's shrine. And though there's a rural idyll, with broken vows at last, Margery (who has been betrayed by a spy) is accused of treason, sentenced to burn. . . and escapes to an easier death. Are the lovers parted forever, then? Well, not quite. Because, in 1865, young Amy, about to marry mill-owner Arthur, is puzzled as to why her pencil keeps drawing medieval couples on horseback! And, just as wedding plans are underway, a dashing new love appears, of course - equipped with the same sort of deja vu love-memories as Amy's. Not quite as much fun as a steady, single Hardwick tale of lassie spunk - but easy reading from an old pro. (Kirkus Reviews)

As if there weren't enough homegrown mysteries about US religious cults, erratic Barnett (Head of the Force, Backfire is Hostile, The Firing Squad) now takes Detective Chief Superintendent Owen Smith into an overdone cult-plot and an unconvincing American landscape. The trail begins in England's quiet Cobb Common, where one of Smith's men finds a murdered infant; then, investigating the case in a neighboring district, the detective himself is killed. So a guilt-ridden Smith takes over the case personally, refusing to bow to departmental courtesy and regulations. He locates the recent whereabouts of the dead baby's unwed mother - just before an arsonist covers that trail (killing several people in the process); a clue among the mother's effects leads him to Stubbs, Iowa, where still more related murders have recently ensued. And behind all the mayhem seems to be a cult called the Orbiters, complete with TV-preaching shows, a female star-evangelist, and a bizarre neo-Immaculate Conception plan. Violent, farfetched nonsense - filled out with dull police-doings back in England, undermined by Barnett's cartoonish view of America: a step backward after the distinct improvement of The Firing Squad. Other Woman Other Woman PDF By author Joy Fielding last download was at 2018-05-03 43:04:24. This book is good alternative for Summer Sky. Download now for free or you can read online Other Woman book.
Unlike Fielding's Kiss Mommy Goodbye, which featured zippy child-kidnap action and terse dialogue, this hackneyed soap - the title tells all - is a static stew of banal talkathons, glossy padding, and pointless flashbacks. Jill Plumley, 34, has been wed for four years to handsome, brilliant lawyer-husband David - whom she stole from his first wife Elaine. But now gorgeous law-student/clerk Nicole Clark announces (at a firm picnic): "I'm going to marry your husband." And so Jill writhes for the next 250 pages - wondering whether David is indeed succumbing to nasty Nicole's seductive warfare. Meanwhile, too, as flashbacks fill in the Elaine/David/Jill triangle of yore, Jill wrestles with other cliched headaches: ex-wife Elaine's obnoxiousness; the surliness of step-kids Jason and Laurie (who may be anorexic); the dreariness of work as a college teacher of TV techniques. (For David's sake, Jill gave up her heavy-traveling duties as a glamorous TV producer.) But only after a sudden plop of implausible melodrama - Jill's older friend Beth kills her longtime husband Al (Dave's partner), now revealed as a hideous wife-abuser - does Jill realize, while putting together a TV documentary, that she too is a wife-abuse victim: "she was as bruised as any of the photographs. It was just that her bruises didn't show." So finally, in a refreshing but tackedon Lib twist ("I want my pride back. I want my soul"), Mill happily gives shallow David over to Nicole - who has indeed already managed to bed him. Dated, second-string TV-movie material, unenhanced by the nonstop suburban chatter (re housekeepers, sex, divorce, exercise, movies, etc.) - but undemanding devotees of the Other Woman genre may want to stay tuned long enough to enjoy the relatively original fadeout. Horse Goddess Horse Goddess PDF By author Morgan Llywelyn last download was at 2017-03-22 58:50:18. This book is good alternative for Summer Sky. Download now for free or you can read online Horse Goddess book.
700 B.C. Celts (Keltis) discover the horse's potential, and a Kelti woman joins nomadic Scythians of the eastern plains while working some psychic surprises and plumping for a bit of consciousness-raising. The Kelti tribe, living in the Blue Mountains (Austrian Alps), are peaceful traders, an Earth-Mother tribe settled in their traditionbound patterned existence; and their priests are known to have the ability to travel in the spirit world. Willful Epona, however, doesn't wish to be apprenticed to sinister chief priest Kernunnas, even though she certainly has a "gift." So, when four horsemen of the distant Scythians pound in one day - edgy, crude, riding on the backs of horses! - Epona takes off with Scythian leader Kazhak, who doesn't think much of women. Still, despite Epona's humiliations and a grueling trek toward the great plains, Kazhak does tell her of his homeland, the Sea of Grass: "Is good place. Is best place." And Epona will soon win respect on the long trek as she empaths a sick horse back to health - in a kind of equine soul-meld. ("Our rituals," she patiently explains to a softening Kazhak, "are things we. . . feel, and we perform them to create symmetry.") But Kazhak, after good sex with Epona, feels not good when he returns to the tribe only to find that the Scythian shamans have complete control over their chief: they obviously intend to topple the power and popularity of Kazhak, the chief's heir. Epona holds the shamans off for a while - by intuiting a storm just in time to mystify and terrify. She also busies herself in camp with tending horses and lecturing to chattel-women of the Scythians about freedom ("I am," insists Epona, "my own person"). But danger approaches: the shamans push forth a plot; and Kernunnas, in the shape of a wolf, has been hounding Kazhak, killing his men - and disturbing Epona, via travel in the spirit world. Epona must escape then; and, after many travails, she's back to the Blue Mountains, now much changed, with horsemen, enemy heads, and expansion plans. Without the historical echoes that helped to put Llywelyn's Lion of Ireland across: a foolish stew of feminism, mysticism, and pidgin dialogue - only for the most undemanding shaman/tribal readership. Difficult Women Difficult Women PDF By author David T. Plante last download was at 2018-08-21 43:47:50. This book is good alternative for Summer Sky. Download now for free or you can read online Difficult Women book.
Novelist Plante's memoir of aged Jean Rhys (which appeared in Paris Review) has achieved a measure of deserved renown for its unsparingly honest portrait of Rhys as alcoholic wreck, as writer; or simply as needy elder. "Listen to me. I want to tell you something very important. All of writing is a huge lake. There are great rivers that feed the lake, like Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. And there are trickles, like Jean Rhys. All that matters is feeding the lake. I don't matter. The lake matters. You must keep feeding the lake. It is very important. Nothing else is important." Plante has expanded this fascinating picture, with its risky balance of inspiration and pity, and added personal portraits of Sonia Orwell, George's widow, and feminist writer Germaine Greer. All three are "difficult women" of his circle: Jean a ruin; Sonia a punctilious fault-finder and moralist; Germaine a polymath-ic, celebrated, unhappy nonconformist. Plante's scenes of life with them are candid and often repellent, as he comes up against drunken incontinence, outrageous preening, lack of sympathy. Yet Plante, far from minding, seems drawn to these women - for their traits throw into relief his "isolation," not only from women in general (sexually) but also from "the world outside one's thoughts and feelings." This attempt to break out of innerness works in Plante's fiction, but it may hot be the sturdiest bedrock for memoirs. Jean and Sonia and Germaine come to seem like regular shocks to Plante's delicacy, and this is limiting. Still, much here is discomforting and affecting: true psychodrama. (Kirkus Reviews)
